What has our world come to, when we do not even know where our own food comes from. Yes, maybe to some people this does not seem like a big deal but you must look at the bigger picture, because we don't know where it is from most people do not know how many pesticides are put into our fruits and vegetables. The new industrial way of life makes it so the connection to our food is gone and now that everything is oil based and all about how fast you can make the food the world has become more oil dependent. This oil dependency will become one of the world’s biggest crisis because all of our food comes on planes, trucks and ships, if our oil peaks what will we eat? Before our industrial way of eating we used to have more respect for mother nature but since this new way of life the earth is now taken for granted and looked at as profit.

PAST
Before the world became oil dependent we used to know where our food comes from how to make things grow and this was a very natural thing to know. Early humans were hunters or gatherers so they knew how hard it is to get food and never took more then they needed. The early humans did not think that the world is theirs and so they always conserved the animals, fruits and vegetables. Many of these people grew food around their homes all of the food had no pesticides chemicals or chemically engineered it was simple tasty and overall better. This way of life was much more sustainable because we were not killing off thousands of animals and wasting most of the animal, the same with fruit and vegetables. We were able to have a certain degree of appreciation I feel that now we go to the supermarket just put all of our food into a basket and have nascence of how to grow or even know where you got it from. This way of life worked for the early humans for about 2 million years, that way of life was sustainable but now due to the industrial way of life we have created overpopulation and though being able to eat a banana in winter is nice what isn’t nice is all the oil that banana had to use to get here you can see that the world is running on black gold but this black gold like everything else in the world cannot last forever. In the book “the greatest mistake of the human race”, it states that human beings greatest mistake was industrializing food due to the fact that the world is now being destroyed because of the exploitation of oil.

Present
In the present we are living in a dream, we feel as though the oil will last forever and for a time this may feel like it is true but we are greedy human beings we are taking more then we can afford, someday we will realize our mistake but now is not the time. This is a time of hummer’s and gas guzzling machines a time where we think we have so much time and that this industrial life style will have no consequences. This is when most people will enjoy there fruits and vegtibles without any care in where it came from “the good life”.

Future
This is when the human race will realize what they took for granted they will now understand without oil city’s cannot survive, our overpopulation will be the idustrial foods fault we will be in a night mare. This is when people who grow there food will become the geniuses and they will need to teach all of us ignorant fossil fuel base people.

first draft essay

Keiji Kawakita
History
Mediterranean Diet
The new Mediterranean diet, have a diet with flavor. The Mediterranean diet consists of eating fruit, vegetables, bread, wheat, olive oil and fish. These are all foods we love and because of the variety, you can eat almost anything you want. The main positive to this diet is that you are able to eat things that have nutrition but also flavor. There are diets these days where you eat food with little or no taste and powdered shakes but this diet will not take away from your ability to enjoy the food you eat while loosing weight. This diet unlike the Atkins diet is low in saturated fat and so the risks of any heart problems are very low. This diet also is not very expensive because of the range of foods sold in stores these days. It costs very little as long as you shop at the very expensive places. This diet is also sustainable because you can get all of the things you need from this diet in Mother Nature. I believe a good diet is to have a little bit of everything and so this diet is very logical.
The great aspect of the Mediterranean diet is that in a lot of their food they use olive oil, which lowers cholesterol. The fruits and grain that are a big part of this diet is also great because it lowers blood pressure and blood sugar levels. The benefits of the Mediterranean diet also include the consumption of wine because wine has many powerful antioxidants. Some people say that there are not enough calcium and iron but green vegetables and gout cheese are a very good source of calcium and iron. Another great thing about olive oil is the amount of vitamins included for example A, B-1, B-2, C, D, E and K, which is found in iron.
The accessibility is great because all stores carry fruits, vegetables, olive oil, bread, fish, cheese though you might not always be able to find wine you can get it very cheap and great tasting as long as you don't want the high quality one. Most of these products are both cheap and found in all grocery stores. The Mediterranean diet I believe is not that hard as long as you follow the guidelines like do not eat too much red meat, you can eat what you want and still get thinner of course you also must exercise also.

the supermarket lens activity

Economical
1. 25% deli in other words meats.
2. 25% produce in other words vegetables and fruits.
3. The other 50% is everything else.
4. I think it is interesting how some products are from Japan, china and other far off country, what’s good.
5. Most of the people who work there are minority. However, the people who shop at the supermarket are mostly white.
6. Why do the foods come all from oil based?
7. If this is not sustainable then why do we do it?
Phenomenological
1. When we first came in the bright lights make everything brighter.
2. The smell of meat and cardboard.
3. People working left and right.
4. The very essence was industrial with all the ads.

pastaa

Pasta hw
1. First open pot and add water. Not that interesting pretty normal
2. Then let the water boil.
3. Then make the sauce I put tomato sauce and ground beef. The best because it smells so good when you make it. Add a little red wine salt pepper.
4. Then when its ready turn off the stove for the sauce. Because it takes seconds to reheat.
5. Then wait until water is boiled. This is exciting because your hard work is about to pay off.
6. Then when its done add a little salt.
7. After the pasta is in and its done take strainer and put water through. Andy was right its very dangerous burned my finger a little. Hot air on my face.
8. Then add a little olive oil to the pasta make it aldente because that's how I like it.
9. Then heats up sauce, put pasta with sauce, and just eat. The best part because it tastes so much better, when you make it.

Organic beef
The main difference I learned about organic beef and regular beef is that the
Organic cows life is much more humane environments. In regular industrial places, the cows live in small barns next to each other since they are born until they die. However, the organic cows run free in pastures, eat grass, and get a very good exercise. They also kill the cows with a butcher instead of a stun gun, the butcher is well trained and knows how to kill the animal without causing any or very little pain. The cows are also killed one at a time and so it is not as mechanic and the other cows do not see it. They also said that the organic beef has less fat and more lean. The cows are in what Rudolf Steiner calls a Biodynamic farm, this concept was made by him in which the base is a healthy farm where the balance of plants and animals. His concept includes producing everything it needs within itself. So this means that because the animal eats the grass then excretes solid waste then the waste goes into the ground making the soil richer and more food for the other animals. The theory also includes no use of fertilizers or pesticides and hormones are strictly avoided on a biodynamic farm.

food sensations

Keiji Kawakita

Chicken sandwich
The sensation starts with the gritty bread rubbing against my teeth. Then the warmth of the bread touches my tongue next my teeth sink into the tender chicken my tongue and teeth work as one to break it down. The chicken rubs against the roof of my mouth. Then the greens come in with a crunch I feel my teeth cut threw it and almost like flavor crystals the mayonnaise and water leak all over my tongue. The flavors of all the garlic are filling my nostrils and the taste of the bread, warmth and chicken rubbing on my teeth the mayonnaise and salad spreading across my mouth it is truly amazing how well these sensations go together. The taste of the bread nooks and crannies are amazing due to their small pores are like pockets which hold the very essence of the bread. Every bite makes my entire six senses tingle with the smell of the garlic and seasonings the felling of all the meat salad mayo running against my teeth. The very taste is like a magical journey; the flavors are so different yet they mix together so well. Then I eat salad, the salad has flavor that is very refreshing because every time I bite down water squirts out of the stem. The sour taste of the dressing makes my tongue swish around the flavor and puts a little pressure right under my ear lobe.
